The Ottawa Bicycle Club is committed to junior development and will be offering a fully supported junior team program for 2016. This program targets athletes under the age of 19 and in the Long Term Athlete Development stages of "Learn to Compete" and "Train to Compete". This program provides a group coaching setting in order to develop cycling team racing skills with a long term objective of individual performance success.
Key components to achieving this mission are:
to provide a balanced yearly racing calendar,
to field a competitive team in targeted events,
to train a group in a team environment.
Our focus will be on developing new and existing athletes in both road and track cycling disciplines. We will continue to prepare riders for provincial and national championships, showing that we have the best development program in Canada.
The OBC Junior Racing Team is comprised of male and female athletes who will train as a group all year and compete in a defined calendar of team events. Athletes are invited to open tryouts to qualify for the team. Candidates will be evaluated based on their capabilities and potential, as well as their level of commitment to the program. We are seeking candidates with solid athletic skills that are capable of traning safely together. In selecting the team size, we will strive to include a balanced mixture of male and female athletes.
Athletes are invited to an open tryout to assess skills and athletic ability. If selected, they will be required to cover a fee for the program, and to purchase equipment for training and competition as needed. Details will be presented to selected athletes at the start of the season.
