The OBC and Advocacy

Your Board and its Directors are frequently approached by other organizations and sometimes by club members representing other organizations or interests to state our position on various issues affecting the cycling community of which we are a part. With ever-increasing news of cyclist deaths on the roads and controversy over cycling paths, cycling lanes and cyclists use of public roads and highways, we only see these requests for support increasing rather than diminishing. We feel it is important to state our position (on behalf of our members) on these various issues.

As a Board we feel that we should not take a position on any issue unless it affects our ongoing cycling programs or unless it affects the safety and well-being of 100% of our membership in the pursuit of cycling activities whether it be cycle commuting, individual cycling or participation in our cycling programs.

To best exemplify our position, let's look at 2 recent cycling issues:

Ottawa Valley Paris-Roubaix Cyclosportif April 16th

Ottawa Valley Paris-Roubaix Cyclosportif April 16th

Like its inspiration, the Ottawa Valley Paris-Roubaix Cyclosportif mixes well paved roads with abominations. The route includes mud, gravel, sand, rocks, woodlots and one switchback climb. The tentative route is about 80-to-90 kilometres long.

Upcoming Social - March 16th : GWAT plus 2011 OBC Touring Program

The trip was an eight day event covering 720 Km.

VOLUNTEERS make it happen

The RLCT is a 40 year old success story. Since the first tour in 1972, this fabulous ride rolls out every year with the help of dedicated volunteers. The work of volunteers is essential. This year we need eighty volunteers, in Ottawa, Perth and Kingston, as well as en route.
