Presenter: André Marier- European Super Tour

André is going to take us through his enormous latest tour that started somewhere in northern Europe, and, I have b een told there was a stint above the Arctic Circle, and he finally finished somewhere in southern Europe. The guy is an adventurer and entertainer. You won't want to miss him. His business card reads, ‘Have Bike, Will Travel - Anywhere & Everywhere By Bicycle'.

Adirondack Quickie

Adirondack Quickie

August 17 - 19 2012

Once again the OBC will visit the Lake Placid area in late summer. This is a great area to ride a bike, with layered green hills, rushing streams and lots of quiet country roads. If that isn't enough a change of speed can be had by bringing your hiking boots - the hiking is terrific too! The sleepy town of Lake Placid is nearby as well.

Rideau Lakes tour is now closed

Registration for the Rideau Lakes tour is now closed.  Cconfirmation letters will be e-mailed/mailed in April.

Finger Lakes Tour

Friday June 22 - Sunday June 24, 2012

This is our 3rd year staying at Inn at the Finger Lakes in Auburn, NY ( . Driving time from Ottawa is about 4h. The cycling routes offer panoramic views of lakes Owasco, Skaneateless, and Otisco. While many roads are quiet, they also tend to be quite hilly, similar to riding in the Gatineaus. The cycling is spectacular and various route options will be provided.

New Cycling Caps are in!

New Cycling Caps are in!

The latest run of cycling caps are in at the club office. These are not your father's cotton caps - they're made of a wicking technical fabric, and have a great fit for under the helmet. Great for cool days, wet days - or preventing sun burns on the head!

Price is $12.50. One size fits all.

Time Trials start on Good Friday

Help needed!!!! For the first time in four years, I'm not going to be in town for Good Friday. If you can help out with the TT, please get in touch with me!

Registration will be between 9:30 and 10:30, in the Aviation Museum parking lot. We'll aim to have the first rider off at 11 am, but we might run a few minutes late as this is the first event of the year.

Note from the President

First off, welcome to the OBC's latest incarnation of the Spokesperson. Going to an electronic format is a big step for us!

Like many of you, I've had a smile on my face all day. The early spring has me off of the skis and out on the bike - Sunday was my first ride of the year in a group - and a big reminder of what I love about cycling. For me, nothing beats a group ride.

Upcoming Social

Racing Program Update

Racing Program Update

Our Junior team continues to tear up the track at the Forest City Velodrome, having spent a good portion of the month of February in London.  As I write this, a group of our Junior athletes are taking part in a Provincial training camp in North Carolina, getting ready for the upcoming road season.  Our coach, Don Moxley, has a great season planned for these athletes and we look forward to regular updates from the athletes.

2012 OBC Advanced Skills Clinic

First Session: Monday, May 7th, 6:30pm at club office

The OBC is holding its popular advanced skills clinic again this year. The course has been presented in many formats under a variety of titles over the years. It is not a fitness training program in any way, but a bike handling and group riding course aimed at touring riders who want to have more fun and have more confidence on the bike.

Club Office Hours in March

On March 14th the office will close at 7pm for a RLCT meeting and March 31st the office will be closed.
