Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour - Update

The tour is only a short time away. We are all praying to the weather gods to be in our favour. The arrangements are being made, from the Registration location, the delivery of the Go-Huts down to the transportation of your over-night bag. Hope you all are ready. Route maps for all four routes will be given out on Saturday and will be posted on the website. There are a few changes on the Classic and Challenge Routes, so you may want to look them over in advance of leaving.

Just a few reminders;

Racing Program Update

Racing Program Update

The OBC L2RT (Learn to Race Team) took part in the eQuinelle Criterium with great success. Thirty three of our athletes toed the line for races of between 2  km and 8 km in length.  Their hard work on cornering skills and group riding techniques this spring paid off as I'm sure anyone watching would agree.  Many thanks to Ryan Phelps for including youth programming in his event schedule.  The OBC L2RT trains twice per week (Saturday morning and Wednesday evening) and we welcome new athletes at any time.

A lifetime of Record Breaking

Jackie MacDonald has set an Ottawa Bicycle Club record becoming the first woman in the Vet F category to compete at the Women's Time Trials. Vet F, you say? It is not always polite to speak about one's age, but in this case, it is definitely worth noting that Jackie is in her 80th year.

Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour - Route Changes

Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour - Route Changes

For 2012, there are no changes to the Cruise and Century Routes; they remain identical to last year. The Classic and Challenge Routes change as follows:

Vermont Inn to Inn, August 6 - 12

Vermont Inn to Inn, August 6 - 12

Well, it's not really an inn TO inn; there are just TWO inns and we drive to and between them, but it's always been called the inn-to-inn tour and so it will remain.  This year we stay at the Middlebury Inn in Middlebury and the Three Stallion Inn in Randolph, both very nice inns in very different settings.

Race Report - Junior Pan American Games

Race Report - Junior Pan American Games

Well that's it; the successful week of racing at Junior Pan American Games is officially over.  The racing in Guatemala started out with some nerves due to the fact that it was the first international competition for many of the riders on this year's young junior team. Team Canada was very excited for their upcoming races throughout the 7 days and excited to work as a team and try our very best in all our races we were there to do. The week started out pretty slow for certain riders because some did not start racing until somewhere throughout the middle of the week.

May 13 Reliability Ride - Maps Available

The OBC spring Reliability Ride is on Sunday, May 13. It is an 88-km loop pitting riders against their estimated time to complete the course. The usual Sunday tours will start at 9 a.m. from Billings Bridge Plaza, plenty of time to make the 9:30 registration time at the Old Hawthorne/St. George Cemetery on Russell Road about 1 km east of the Russell Road/Hawthorne intersection. The ride starts at 10 a.m. Parking is limited at the cemetery, so riders are encouraged to park at Billings Bridge and ride to the short 8 km to the cemetery. Good luck to everyone!

Rosmarie Gerber (our retired office administator) also unloaded surplus OBC clothing for peanuts. Bring your gems to sell and setup at a table, cash in on deals, or just enjoy the great atmosphere. Adirondack Quickie August 17 - 19

Adirondack Quickie August 17 - 19

Once again the OBC will visit the Lake Placid area in late summer. This is a great area to ride a bike, with layered green hills, rushing streams and lots of quiet country roads. If that isn't enough a change of speed can be had by bringing your hiking boots - the hiking is terrific too! The sleepy town of Lake Placid is nearby as well.
