September Time Trialing

15km News: We're wrapping up the open TT with two events in September (the 6th and 13th). As the days are getting shorter (sunset on the 13th is 7:17), we're going to close registration at 5:45, and have the first rider off at 6:10. We have to be firm with the registration close time, because we're pushing the daylight limits on the 13th - so if you want to avoid disappointment, be at the registration early!

Ottawa's Capital Velo Fest June 2012

Ottawa's Capital Velo Fest June 2012

Inspire people of all ages to ride a bike more often

Ottawa's Capital Velo Fest was a lot of fun, and it carried out its mandate to 'Inspire people of all ages to ride a bike more often'. Judging by the number of promotional tents set up on the north lawn of City Hall (below are the other participants), the effort Dick Louch, its creator and coordinator, poured into the second year of this event, people did indeed have fun and were inspired. Thank you OBC Secretary Louise McLaren and Marketing Director Scott McDougall for being on hand with me to represent our club. The OBC did its part to inspire and have fun by donating door prizes, providing brochures about our club's activities, and just talking about what the club could do for those that ventured in to talk with us. A great atmosphere was created to discover the wonderful opportunities for cycling in and around Ottawa. A bike rodeo, polo-on-wheels, and a cycling fasion show added to the experience.

OBC July BBQ 2012

OBC July BBQ 2012

Thanks to all who participating in the annual OBC BBQ! It was very good to see the OBC spirit alive and well. Attendance was up from about 30 in 2011 to about 45 this year. The first group arrived at about 12:15ish p.m. and people just kept coming until about 2:00 p.m. Great food was provided in generous quantities.

It’s all downhill from here

The signs are unmistakable. Cooler mornings. Fewer hours of daylight. Trees starting to change colour here and there. Autumn is peeking over the horizon.

It seems like only last week that we started the 2012 riding season. In all honesty, I can't recall such hot, muggy conditions as we had this year. At times it felt like we were cycling in a sauna.

Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour 2013 Committee
