Northumberland May 17 - 20 2013

Spring Riding and Good Company

The annual OBC tour to Coburg is once again scheduled for the May long weekend at the Breakers Motel. Last year's trip was a great success, with 3 sunny days, cool evenings and the BBQ at the ready for Saturday and Sunday evening meals. Tour participants were rewarded with clear skies and great cycling weather, warm mornings and hot but not humid daytime temps along the various routes. As always, the Breakers provided an excellent rest stop with the sound of the waves lulling us to sleep after a great day on the roads.

Here is your excuse to keep in shape over the winter months.  This trip offers a range of cycling options for the recreational cyclist to the most hard core.  You will be able to select rides each day of 20 km on rolling terrain to 150 km in the mountains, a little something for everyone.  We have selected two hotels in the centre of small historic towns of Lexington VA and Strasburg PA, four (4) nights at each hotel.  Each day you will be provided with maps, cue sheets and company to explore the beautiful scenery around these two towns.

Open House Social Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

'Open House' Social
Wednesday, January 16th, 2013
Officially 7:00 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m. HMCS Bytown Officers’ Mess 78 Lisgar Street

Hello there! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and a very happy New Year. Just as you suspected, we are having a social this Wednesday, January 16th, however, the scheduled speaker will be delayed several months and so we will be having an 'Open House' Social. We will do what we always do – talk, and talk, and talk, and talk, and talk some more, but this time, without a guest speaker. The December, 2012 'OBC Office Open House' was just that. The place was very much alive with a solid three hours of catching up with friends, meeting people, getting the latest gossip, and just being there. Our fine club president, Peter Tregunno, commented that he hadn’t seen so many people in our office all at once. Let’s do the same this Wednesday, at the HMCS Bytown Officers’ Mess (the Naval Officers’ Mess) at 78 Lisgar Street, just across from City Hall. Look for the big anchor on the front lawn. I will be there at 6:30 p.m. to get things going. Remember, there is limited parking beside the building so be there early. Our next month’s Social is on Wednesday, February 20th featuring Dick Louche from the Ottawa Velo Fest. Take care.

I hope to see you this Wednesday, January 16th.
