Another RLCT is in the books!

The 44th RLCT has come and gone, but the memories remain. The sunshine, tailwinds and many happy volunteers, sponsors, event hosts and riders collectively made the RLCT 2015 a great success.

Did You Know?

Adirondack Quickie - August 21st to 23rd

After a short hiatus, the much adored Adirondack Quickie is back, like a phoenix rising from the ashes.  This will be the 11th running of the tour and its fourth accommodation.  While the hosts will be new in 2015, it's the same great season, same great locale.  So dust off your pie-plate cassette...

The Lake Placid area is a great area to ride a bike, with layered green hills, rushing streams and lots of quiet country roads. If that isn't enough a change of speed can be had by bringing your hiking boots - the hiking is terrific too! We'll be in the village of Wilmington but the sleepy town of Lake Placid is nearby as well for those needing big-city lights.

Additional information and application forms are on the Adirondack Quickie page.

Rideau Lakes 2015 - Lost & Found

The Lost & Found items are now gathered at the OBC Club House at 170B Booth Street.  Office hours are located here.

We have several pairs of prescription glasses and other miscellaneous items.  Please let us know if you lost anything during the Tour.

Wednesday, June 17th - Office Closing Early

Just a quick note - the office will be closing early at 5:30pm this evening.  Our apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Sunday, June 21 remote start location

The Sunday June 21 ride departure location will be the Hilton Garden Inn , at the corner of Alert and Uplands, rather than the usual Billings Bridge location. Members can leave their vehicles in Parking Lot 7 behind the hotel on Thad Johnson Private. There will be OBC signs to direct you to the parking lot. Washroom facilities are available using the rear entrance of the hotel. You are welcome to relax in the hotel bar at the end of the day to celebrate another great ride.

I would like to remind members to always carry their health card and possibly their driver's license when heading out on the road. Your fellow riders may know you only by your first name which won't be enough if something serious occurs. You should always prepared in case of an emergency.

Safe riding.

Mourning One of Our Best - Nicole LaViolette

Surrounded by family and close friends filling a double hospital room, Nicole died May 22, 2015, in the arms of her life partner Lisa Hebert. She made many contributions to our community including recently co-writing and releasing the book "Every Cyclist's Guide to Canadian Law" late last year.

In Nicole's name, donations are being accepted to the "Fonds Nicole LaViolette" c/o the Dean's office, Faculty of Law, 57 Louis Pasteur St, University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Ontario, K1N 6N5.  It is a fund to support immigrant and refugee students in the French common law program.  Donations before the end of June will be matched by the University.

The Memorial Celebration of Nicole's life will be held at uOttawa on Monday, June 15th, in Tabaret Hall, at 7:00pm.

Summer's End Century - September 19th to 20th

Plans for the September weekend to Mont Tremblant are now finalized. Based upon feedback from last year's participants, we are offering a few different options for this year's tour. As in past years, the main group will ride from a remote start in St Remi d'Amherst. Routes will also be available for those riders who prefer to drive to Mont Tremblant and do loop rides from the hotel. Our hotel this year is the Marriott Residence Inn. It offers similar room choices to last year's hotel and is about 3 kms away from it. Amenities include kitchen/kitchenette, pool, fitness centre and free Wi-Fi. For those who wish to make it a real "weekend" tour, we have also booked a few rooms for Friday night. Route maps for rides from the Hotel will be available for those arriving by car on Friday or Saturday.

Additional information and application forms are on the Summer's End Century page.

Tonight's Ride Cancelled

Due to the weather forecast, tonight's ride is cancelled.  For those who want to ride regardless of the rain, the maps are available on-line.

44th RLCT Thanks

Thanks to the volunteers and participants who made the 44th RLCT a huge success. The tail winds both days made the weekend even better.

June Spokesperson

The June issue of the Spokesperson has been distributed via e-mail. It is also available on-line.
