Sunday Ride Remote Start

This Sunday's ride has a remote start from the Tim Hortons, at 3224 Hawthorne Rd. There is no departure from Billings Bridge. Please park your vehicles in the section adjacent to Stevenage Drive. Please see the OBC calendar  for more details.    

TT Season starts May 3rd (Women's Series) and May 5th (Open series)

The Women's Time Trial (WTT) series is starting up on May 3rd, and the Open series starts on May 5th.

For the month of May, the WTT uses the 10km course, with registration at first parking lot east of the Aviation Museum on the Sir George-Etienne Cartier Parkway  (yes that's the new name for the Eastern Parkway).

The Open series uses the 15km course for the entire season, with registration in the Aviation Museum parking lot. Full details for the Open series are on the Open TT page.

Note that both series are in need of volunteers!!!! Without volunteers, these events will not happen - so if you can help (even for one night) , please contact me (Peter Tregunno)

OBC 'Spring Thing' Picnic Sunday, May 22nd

10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.'ish' Watson's Mill Historic Park in Manotick

The OBC 'Spring Thing'! is the invention of André Gauthier, our day tour director, with the intent of giving those cyclists getting ready for the Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour another reason to get out there and train. Please cruise by to take part in the 'Build Your Own Sandwich' event complete with Panini presses to heat up your creation.

Annual OBC Garage Sale & New Members Night Wednesday, May 11th

6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. 78 Lisgar St, Ottawa

Just a quick reminder of the OBC Social Wednesday, May 11th! I was at the first Group Riding Clinic of the year and there were over 60 enthusiastic new members taking the course at the Experimental Farm. Let's hope many of you who went on the 16th can come to this OBC event as well. Of course, all are welcome, returning members, and non-members as well. For those of you that just like to browse, come on down. If you wish to unload your cycling and/or sports related stuff, please feel free to grab a space at a table and sell, sell, sell!

Club House Closing Early Monday, April 25th

Due to registration for the Advanced Skills Clinic on Monday, April 25th the club house will be closing early at 5pm.  There is still room in the clinic, so show up on Monday at 6:30pm if you are interested.  Registration and the first classroom session will take place at Ben Franklin Place, 101 Centrepointe Drive.  All participants must be 2016 OBC Members.  More info on the clinic may be found on the Advanced Skills Clinic  page, as well as a registration form that may be printed out and brought to the session. Cost for the 8 week clinic is $50 per person (cash, cheque or credit card).  See you there!

Lac Saint-Jean Saguenay July 24th to 30th

  • A camping tour welcoming families
  • 6 riding days, 7 nights camping - July 24-30, 2016
  • Riding distances range from 58 km - 93 km
  • Mix of dedicated bike path, marked bike land and quiet country roads;
  • Self-supported (riders each assigned a driving day)

Great OBC Junior Results at the 2016 Canadian Junior Track Championships

April 1-3 at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre 

The Ottawa Bicycle Club was well represented by Julia Gibson, riding in the U17 Women category, and Marie Alexendre Lemire, riding for the Quebec provincial team in the Junior Women category. Don Moxley was there as their coach.  Marie won a bronze in the team sprint, and placed well in a number of other events, in a very competitive field that saw a number of Canadian records broken. Julia was a fierce competitor, wining bronze in the individual pursuit, and sprint, and silver in the team sprint, 500 meter time trial, and elimination race.

Saturday Group Riding Clinic

The first Group Riding Clinic of the season takes place this Saturday, April 16 at the Experimental Farm.  After two cancellations,  many new members must be looking forward to the clinic in preparation for various Club activities. As of Monday, April 11,  the OBC has 236 new members.  So, preparations will be in place for a larger than normal participation at the clinic with the right number of group leaders and enough room to practice manoeuvres. If you plan to attend the clinic, would you kindly send me an email at the link below indicating your participation.  All you need to write is: "I plan to take part in the Group Riding Clinic this Saturday".

Angella Goran - Cross-Canada Cycling Tour

HMCS Bytown Officers' Mess, 78 Lisgar, doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Angella Goran's recent Cross-Canada Cycling Tour in support of the Canadian Wildlife Federation will be the main topic. And, for a bonus, she is pumped to show us a sneak preview of a large scale cycling event coming up in Ottawa to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday.Angella's athletic background is considerable. She was a former member of the Canadian National Rowing Team. She is currently training on a grand level to fulfill a dream of regaining Canadian National status, but in cycling this time. Both OBC members and non-members are welcome to the HMCS Bytown Officers' Mess (78 Lisgar) on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016, to meet with Angella and see her presentation. Get there early for door prizes! The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and Angella will start at about 7:30 p.m. Don't forget there is a cash bar and potato chips are served free of charge.Note: there is limited free parking beside the building. Get there early for a spot.
