In implementing COVID-19 safety measures/protocols, the Ottawa Bicycle Club will follow the latest Return to Sport and Progressive Return to Cycling Guidelines of the Ontario Cycling Association (found at https://www.ontariocycling.org/covid-19-information/). Where there is any conflict between the OCA guidelines and the OBC’s Ride Guidelines, the OCA guidelines take precedence. All members should familiarize themselves with these items prior to participating in any Ottawa Bicycle Club activity.
OBC Womens’ Rides
The OBC will offer a new program of women’s-only rides in the 2021 season. These rides will follow the general guidelines specific to road rides or to gravel rides, as applicable.
However, these rides will differ from the OBC’s group rides that are open to both men and women in that the focus of women-only rides is on newer, less experienced and possibly less-confident OBC members. Accordingly, these rides
- Tend to be more recreational in nature
- More relaxed speed options
- Shorter ride distances
- Are led by friendly and welcoming Ride Hosts and Group Leaders
- Will focus more on social interaction and less on athletic performance
The OBC anticipates that by participating in these rides, our female members will develop the confidence and skills to take on greater cycling challenges, such as the longer group rides and / or the women’s time trials.
