Volunteering

Every year the riders tell us it is the volunteers that make this a special ride!

If you can’t join us on the ride, why don’t you join us as a volunteer? … and help make this a special event! This event needs volunteers to be a safe and enjoyable event for all the participants. Please consider volunteering or convincing a friend to volunteer!  Check out our volunteer page for descriptions and information. There are perks and for some positions, you can still ride at least one way.

iVolunteer.com is an easy, effective way for RLCT volunteers to see what is needed and sign themselves up online if interested. We need a big crew to deliver this great ride. Go to iVolunteer to sign up.

Prior to the event weekend, volunteers are needed for:

  • Coordinating volunteers.
  • Helping with the early bib and T-shirt pick-up.

On the weekend of June 8 & 9, volunteers are especially needed for these tasks:

  • Helping with the registrations and reception at Conlon Farm, Perth and Algonquin College, Ottawa, Friday evening and Saturday morning.
  • Loading and unloading the luggage trucks at Algonquin College, Conlon Farm and at Queen’s University.
  • Supervising the rest stops on the Classic and Century routes.

The task of supervising the rest stops is ideal for high-school students needing volunteer hours. The other tasks can be done by people who are also riding.

Perks of Volunteering

All volunteers will get the full respect of the riders and the Ottawa Bicycle Club, a volunteer T-shirt, tickets for the return home BBQ’s and Queen’s BBQ and an invitation to the excellent volunteer dinner scheduled for June 25.

Route Marshals

If you an experienced cyclist riding the RLCT, you might consider volunteering as a route marshal

Route Marshals are respected riders who are the Ottawa Bicycle Club’s (OBC) safety ambassadors to help keep the RLCT riders safe while on route.

On the Tour weekend, safety is our number one priority and is critical to keeping a quality Tour. As such we need registered, experienced cyclists who can set a great example for our riders.

See the Route Marshals page for more details.
