Ottawa Bicycle Club Offering Alternative Events and Numerous Ways to Celebrate the Club’s 50th Anniversary.
The Ottawa Bicycle Club has made the difficult decision to again cancel its signature event, the Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour (RLCT) for the summer of 2021. With ongoing uncertainties remaining due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, and in-line with other major regional athletic events, the club has decided to cancel its primary mass start event.
For those who deferred their 2020 registration fees in anticipation of a 2021 Tour, two options are now offered:
1) A 90% refund of the total paid (OBC registration, CCN fee and HST) 2020 fees. The OBC incurred unrecoverable costs related to deposits with suppliers for the event, resulting in the 10% refund reduction.
2) A donation of registration fees back to the Club. Last year a sizable number of RLCT registrants chose to donate their full registration fees to the OBC. Gifting your deferred 2020 RLCT registration fees will help fund other OBC activities and help ensure that the club enters the 2022 season in a more stable financial position as we plan for the 2022 RLCT.
All RLCT registrants from the 2020 season will soon receive a separate email that you can respond to and indicate your preferred financial option.
Notwithstanding the cancellation of the RLCT for the summer of 2021, the Club will be staging a supplemental riding activity in place of the regularly scheduled RLCT, the 50for50 challenge. We encourage all 2020 RLCT registrants to renew or join the Club so that they may participate in this innovative cycling challenge 50for50 challenge running from May to August 2021. 50for50 Rideau Lakes, spring 2021
In lieu of the traditional RLCT, the club has introduced a new and exciting cycle touring opportunity, the 50for50 Challenge that will run from May to August 2021. "50 for 50" stands for "50 Rideau Lakes inspired routes on the 50th anniversary of the Ottawa Bicycle Club". Registration for the 50for50 Challenge Rideau Lakes will open in April 2021. Come join with us in celebration of our 50th anniversary by continuing the long tradition of 'riding the Rideau Lakes' through this collection of 50 great rides!
The favourite routes contest for the 50for50 has recently been announced and the team has, to date, received 11 contest entries. We will continue to accept entries until April 15. For details on the contest, please see: https://www.ottawabicycleclub.ca/rlct/#favourite
We are also looking for sponsors who are willing and able to contribute prizes, not only to our favourite route contest but also to the 50for50 Challenge as a whole. If you are aware of potential sponsors, or if you would like to make prize or contest suggestions for this event, please email your suggested ideas to email@example.com. We will include any new sponsor logo on our 50for50 website to help promote our partnership and their business!
