Tours

The OBC facilitates select out-of-town tours each year for its members. Most tours are organized by individual members with a knack for event planning and a keen interest in exploring new and exciting locations on their bike or sharing their cycling passion with others. If you have an idea for a tour and want to get something on the OBC Calendar, contact the Touring Director

The first out-of-town OBC tour of 2025 returns once again to picturesque Westport, just a 90-minute drive south of Ottawa, from Tuesday, May 13 through Friday, May 16. It is a great location for spring training and those preparing for the Rideau Lakes Cycling Tour. Participants will stay at the stately Cove Inn on the shores of the Upper Rideau Lake.

The route options will take you to the most impressive locks on the Rideau Canal Lock System (The Narrows, Newboro, Chaffeys, Davis and Jones Falls).

Most routes will leave from the Inn but remote starts are included from both Newboro and Forfar to allow participants to discover destinations such as Portland on the Big Rideau Lake, Athens, and a choice of Lock stations along the Rideau Canal. The tour will include road and gravel route options.

The Cove Inn is offering a deal on room costs: book two nights, get the third one free.

There are 12 rooms being held for the OBC until Monday, April 14. Book early to avoid disappointment! Room reservations can be done directly with the Cove Inn.

Breakfast – TBD depending on number of registrations

Lunch – Not included. Usually people pack a lunch to take because provisions en route can be very limited.

Dinner – Not included. Evening meals will be in local restaurants.

Transportation to and from: Not included.

Spring Riding in Southern Ontario!

The annual OBC tour to Cobourg in the heart of Northumberland county has returned after a long absence. As in past times, we have been able to reserve a block of rooms at The Breakers on the Lake for the May long weekend.

We will check in on Friday, May 16, and finish the tour on Victoria Day morning, May 19, with a quick easy ride before heading home. Previous trips have been a great success with sunny days, cool evenings and barbecue facilities available for the Saturday and Sunday evening meals, should you wish.

Mornings are usually cool but temperatures warm up during the day and Lake Ontario is just a few feet away for those who are adventurous enough to take a dip after the day’s ride. Friday evening is set aside for a dinner out with the tour participants and discussions on the various riding options for the next few days. The touring area around Cobourg is ideal for the spring training required to prepare for upcoming longer rides including Rideau Lakes Cycling Tour, with many of the routes in the 100 km range with some hearty hills to dig into.

Room reservations should be made directly with The Breakers On The Lake here: Click here to reserve a room at The Breakers.

Cost per participant for three nights, double occupancy, ranges between $255 and $285 (tax included), depending on the room. There are eight rooms being held for OBC members until April 1. Book early to avoid disappointment!
