Tours

OBC organizes a selection of out-of-town tours each year for members. Members often plan these tours and share their love of cycling while exploring new and interesting destinations.

Spring Riding in Southern Ontario!

OBC is again offering our annual Spring Tour to Cobourg, in the heart of Northumberland County. As in past years, we have reserved a block of rooms at The Breakers On The Lake for the May long weekend.

We check in on Friday, May 15 and wrap up on Monday morning, May 18 (Victoria Day) with a short, easy ride before heading home. Past trips have been a highlight of the season, with sunny days, cool evenings, and barbecue facilities available for Saturday and Sunday dinners if you’d like to cook on site.

Mornings can be cool, but temperatures usually warm up during the day. Lake Ontario is just steps away so if you’re feeling brave, you can even take a dip after your ride. On Friday evening, we’ll go out for dinner and review the riding options for the weekend.

The Cobourg area is excellent for spring training and preparing for longer rides (including Rideau Lakes). Many routes are around 100 km, with some solid hills.

How to register

Cost per participant for three nights (double occupancy) ranges from $270 to $300 (tax included), depending on the room.

Important: We are holding 8 rooms for OBC members until April 1, so please book early to avoid missing out.

For more information, please contact Eric Burpee or the OBC Office.

The St-Jean-sur-Richelieu Tour features cycling in Quebec’s beautiful Montérégie region—an area known for its culture, heritage, and great food.

You’ll have several route options with varying distances, including rides through villages along the Richelieu River.

BACKGROUND COMMENTARY:

This year’s event follows the inaugural Renfrew Tour, held in September 2025.

The September 2026 route selection is adapted from local knowledge and a wider set of routes designed by https://ovcata.ca/, the Ottawa Valley Cycling and Active Transportation Alliance.

OVCATA is a valuable resource. They are willing to work with the OBC at recommending routes for future tours in the many other parts of Renfrew County

NOTES FOR THIS YEAR:

  • The mixed-use Ottawa Valley Trail runs through Pembroke. Coming from Arnprior in the Southeast, it extends further Northwest, past Petawawa to Deep River. https://www.ottawavalleytrail.com/

  • East of Pembroke in Whitewater Region (Westmeath- Beachburg – La Passe – Foresters Falls) are quiet roads with views of the Quebec hills across the river. (Day 1)

  • South of Pembroke are routes through farmland and bush country to French Settlement, Stafford, Micksburg, Oceola, Douglas and Eganville. (Day 2)

  • Looking North, across the Quebec bridge to l’Isle aux Allumettes, follow a quiet circle route around the island. In Chapeau: Conroy’s Store, the Old Bank Restaurant and Karl’s Bakery. (Day 3)

  • To the Southwest, for future consideration in 2027: challenging hill climbs and descents are available in the Madawaska Highlands, all of which are well known to local riders. Eganville and Killaloe are popular starting points, taking you through Wilno, Barry’s Bay, Combermere, Brudenell and Foymount.

  • From Allumette Island, gravel bikes can connect with the PPJ Cyclopark mixed use trail. The PPJ heads East along the Ottawa River to near Quyon.

Because a tour company runs this trip, it is not limited to OBC members. Invite cycling friends and family—the larger the group, the better the chance of a volume discount.
