The OBC has been committed to supporting aspiring junior aged riders in the Ottawa/Gatineau region for over 30 years.
For 2020 and beyond, the OBC Youth Program is expanding its enhanced racing support to cover all interested and dedicated male and female riders in the U15, U17, and U19 categories. This program, focused on competition and racing, provides support. This approach enables athletes to build their skills and strength each year, as they develop into proficient and successful racers. Our mission is to provide the highest quality program that inspires and develops each athlete’s abilities in preparation to race provincially and internationally as senior racers.
The Program has developed many successful athletes who have made careers of cycling and gone on to represent Canada at the highest levels of the sport including World Championships, Olympic Games and the Tour de France. Our recent alumni include Carson Miles, Katherine Maine, Alex Cataford, Ariane Bonhomme, Derek Gee, and others. The OBC is proud to support young aspiring racers who are working towards a career in cycling.
Our focus is on developing new and existing male and female youth cyclists who wish to train, prepare and race in road, track and cyclocross competitions. Races include local, regional and provincial events, as well as provincial and national championships.
Key components of the program include:
- A holistic program that follows Long Term Athlete Development principles;
- Support for athletes to achieve and celebrate their full personal potential;
- Opportunities to contribute to and benefit from an extended cycling community; and
- The experience of being part of a cycling team in pursuit of team goals.
Through training at coached team sessions and on one’s own, athletes will learn to follow a training plan, compete as part of a team, and manage their time so that there is a healthy balance between cycling and life outside of cycling. Our program develops more than athletic ability, but also attributes such as integrity, honesty, passion and grit. We want our athletes to be ambassadors of the sport and ready for great things in life, both on and off the bike.
Interested athletes are invited to contact the Youth Racing Program lead coach (Email: link to firstname.lastname@example.org) to discuss the program in more detail. Athletes who proceed to join the team will be required to register as member of the OBC, purchase an OCA membership, race license, arrange payment of the program fee, and purchase equipment for training and competition as needed.
