The OBC facilitates select out-of-town tours each year for its members. Most tours are organized by individual members with a knack for event planning and a keen interest in exploring new and exciting locations on their bike or sharing their cycling passion with others. If you have an idea for a tour and want to get something on the OBC Calendar, contact Touring Director, Christopher Clarke.
The Westport tour is back for 2024! Dates are set for Tuesday, May 14 to Friday, May 17. It is an ideal “first tour” for members to develop an appreciation for OBC Tours. Westport is only 90 minutes from Ottawa. It is a great location for spring training and those registered for this year’s RLCT.
The route options will take you to the most impressive locks on the Rideau Canal Lock System (The Narrows, Newboro, Chaffeys, Davis and Jones Falls).
Most routes will leave from the Inn but some remote starts are included from both Newboro and Forfar to allow participants to discover destinations such as Portland on the Big Rideau Lake, Athens and a choice of Lock stations along the Rideau Canal. As well, the tour will also include two gravel route options; one along a portion of the RLCT gravel route while the other will travel along the Kingston & Pembroke trail.
We will be staying at the Cove Inn as usual.
Maximum participants: 24.
Cost per room for 3 nights including breakfast: $480 + $62.40HST = $542.40
There are 11 rooms at the Cove Inn furnished with either one queen or one king bed and one room with two double beds.
Lunch – Not included. Usually people pack a lunch to take because provisions en route can be very limited.
Dinner – Not included. Evening meals will be in local restaurants.
